Neurofibromatosis is a genetically-inherited disease where the nerve tissue grows tumors that may cause serious damage by compressing nerves and other tissues.


Symptoms may include:


  • tumors - may cause bumps under the skin
  • colored spots
  • skeletal problems
  • pressure on spinal nerve roots
  • neurological problems

Causes may include:


  • Inherited disorder

Treatments include:



Types include:


  • type 1 - (von Recklinghausen's disease) – causes neurologic, cutaneous, and sometimes orthopedic manifestations
  • type 2 – manifests as a congenital bilateral acoustic neurom
  • neurology
