Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine that is apparent on frontal projection, measures greater than 10 degrees and is associated with vertebral rotation.  The vertebrae rotate, forming the convex part of the curve - the rotation causes rib prominence along the thoracic spine and waistline asymmetry in the lumbar spine - severity of spinal deformity dictates physiological impairment.

  • close observation
  • brace
  • spinal orthoses
  • functional strengthening program
  • gradual increase in activity
  • no vigorous sports
  • prescribed exercise regimen like swimming (no diving)
  • surgery
