Total Joint Replacement
If pain is keeping you from doing the things you love, and your daily routine has become difficult to manage, it’s time to consider your options. With opportunities to speak directly with our physicians at the Orthopedic Open House as well as a dedicated multi-disciplinary team to guide you along the way, we can help you determine if total joint replacement is right for you.
Most hospitals will tell you they provide great orthopedic care. At RWJ Hamilton, this is validated by our patients and the national organizations who measure how hospitals meet their high standards. The Total Joint Replacement program is nationally certified by the Joint Commission and has been awarded a 5-star rating by HealthGrades (2012).
Patient Satisfaction: Over the course of the year, hundreds of surveys are sent to orthopedic patients following their hospital stay by a third-party (Press Ganey, the leading patient satisfaction organization in the US); those results are reported to us for constant monitoring. In 2011, the orthopedic unit at RWJ Hamilton received an A-Plus for patient care, putting the hospital in the 99th percentile of hospitals nationwide. 2012 is turning out to be another great year and we are proud of everything our care team does to ensure this level of satisfaction.
Quality of Care: The 2012 annual report on orthopedics released by HealthGrades — the nation’s most trusted, independent source of physician information and hospital quality ratings — named RWJ Hamilton among the Top 5 Hospitals in New Jersey for Overall Orthopedic Services in 2012. The report found that patients treated at 5-star rated hospitals experience a 73% lower risk of mortality and a 63% lower risk of complications compared to 1-star rated hospitals. In 2012, RWJ Hamilton was rated five stars in overall orthopedics, joint replacement and spine surgery. If all Medicare patients had been treated at 5-star hospitals, HealthGrades asserts that more than 240,000 lives could have potentially been saved.
RWJ Hamilton currently follows with national infection prevention protocols and procedures. Patients can be assured that their safety and recovery are our top priority.
National Certification: RWJ Hamilton is the only hospital in Mercer County with a joint replacement program nationally-certified by The Joint Commission, an independent organization that accredits and certifies health care organizations in the US. The Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. Through an extensive on-site evaluation that includes a rigorous review of our processes, interviews with patients, physicians and staff, The Joint Commission has recognized RWJ Hamilton for meeting and exceeding national standards that significantly improve outcomes for hip and knee replacement patients.
