Hamilton, NJ - Daniel Graziano, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (RWJ Hamilton) today announced the resignation of President and CEO Ellen L. Guarnieri and the appointment of Anthony J. Cimino as President and CEO.

Cimino has been a member of the Board of Directors at RWJ Hamilton since 1988, and served as Chairman and Vice Chairman during his tenure. He also served on the Board of Directors for RWJ Health System, and the Lakeview Child Centers, which are affiliated with the hospital.

Guarnieri will resume the distinguished healthcare consulting practice she operated prior to joining the hospital, and provide consultative support to the RWJ Health System in New Brunswick. Until mid-July, Guarnieri will remain actively involved to assist in the transition of Cimino, whose appointment takes effect immediately.

"Under Mr. Cimino's leadership, we look forward to building RWJ Hamilton into an even stronger healthcare provider," stated Graziano. "In addition to his proven leadership skills in both the public and private sectors, Mr. Cimino has a long history with RWJ Hamilton - giving him a unique knowledge base and familiarity with the RWJ family."

"We appreciate the contributions of Ellen Guarnieri and wish her well as she continues to pursue her passion for quality healthcare," added Graziano. "With the opening of the Columbus Diagnostic Center earlier this year, the expansion of the Lakefront Tower last year, the entry of new medical staff leadership, and her continued pursuit of community outreach and a wellness mission, she has positioned our organization for both immediate and future success."

"The healthcare market in New Jersey is changing rapidly - with both challenges and opportunities ahead. We welcome the appointment of Mr. Cimino to lead RWJ Hamilton through this ever-evolving healthcare environment, and welcome his management skills to make the hospital even stronger," stated Stephen K. Jones, President and CEO, Robert Wood Johnson Health Care Corp. "A strong part of the hospital's growth and healthcare strategy will be pursued through even closer relationships with the entire RWJ Health System. Mr. Cimino's familiarity and long-time relationship with both entities will be a tremendous asset in implementing that plan."

In 1994, RWJ Hamilton began its partnership with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, principal hospital for UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. This affiliation has led to significant growth in every area of the hospital, and has provided its patients with the latest medical innovations and the expertise of outstanding physicians in every specialty. Together the system provides the community with access to medical advancements at every level of patient care.

"For more than 20 years, I've dedicated my personal time and expertise to ensure that the quality of care and commitment to the community are realized at RWJ Hamilton," stated Cimino. "I welcome the opportunity to commit those efforts and my complete attention full-time to the hospital."

"I foresee an even stronger working relationship with the physicians, professional staff and employees at RWJ Hamilton to realize our growth and community goals," added Cimino. "My priority is to reinforce the quality and access of care at the hospital through these working partners and through expanded relationships with the larger Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Academic Medical Center."

Cimino has an extensive management career in both the public and private sectors. He served as Commissioner of Personnel for the State of New Jersey from 1992 to 1994, and as a member of the New Jersey State Assembly from 1988 to 1992. He also served as a member of the State Pension and Health Benefits Commission and the Executive Commission on Ethical Standards. Prior to holding state office, Cimino served as a member and as president of the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

The Hamilton resident is a trustee of Mercer County College, Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce and Children's Specialized Hospital. In the private sector, Cimino was the president and chief administrative officer of CMX Engineering, a national engineering firm with up to 1,000 employees and annual revenues in excess of $120 million.
