RWJ Health Fair Promotes Fitness & Wellness
The RWJ Hamilton Center for Health & Wellness will be packed on Saturday, February 25, 2012 when RWJ hosts its annual community health fair and dance event to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease.
“Dancing can be an enjoyable form of cardiovascular exercise,” says Diann Mancuso, Director of Community Health Education at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (RWJ Hamilton). “This event - Dance for Life – combines the fun of dancing with health screenings and education about heart disease and other topics for healthy living.”
The free event from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. will include four half-hour, instructor-led dance lessons, including Zumba, Rock n’ Roll line dancing, belly dancing, and SH’BAM – a dance-inspired cardio routine that is quickly growing in popularity among group fitness enthusiasts.
Dozens of healthcare professionals from RWJ Hamilton are volunteering their time to provide free health information and consultations, including cardiologist Ronald Ryder, DO, who will lead a discussion on the advancements in cardiac care.
Dance for Life coincides with the 8th Anniversary Open House of RWJ Hamilton’s Center for Health & Wellness. On Saturday, visitors can use the Center for a free day of exercise, including use of the aquatic center and group fitness classes. Parents are encouraged to bring their children for a special FitKids Parent & Me group fitness class.
“Our facility has fulfilled the day-to-day health needs of its members and neighbors as a fitness, rehabilitation and education center for nearly a decade,” says Lindsay Adams, General Manager. “This Open House is an opportunity for our neighbors to try us out; to experience what distinguishes us – a medically-based fitness facility – from commercially-based fitness centers.”
Visitors can also meet former New York Giant Super Bowl Champions Bart Oates and Stephen Baker during an autograph session, as well as Bill Baroni, deputy executive director of The Port Authority, and author of the book Fat Kid Got Fit: And So Can You! Baroni, a Center for Health & Wellness member and former state senator, will address the crowd and sign copies of his book.
Dance for Life takes place during Heart Health Awareness Month and participants are encouraged to wear red to show their support for heart disease awareness. RWJ Hamilton Center for Health & Wellness is located in the Clover Square Shopping Center, 3100 Quakerbridge Rd, Hamilton.
