Mercer County Brings Out Marchers of All Ages
It was the best feel-good moment of the week when approximately 3000 residents joined together in support of the smallest citizens of Mercer County — babies — by participating in the 2013 March for Babies to benefit the March of Dimes. Mercer County Park was packed with strollers, families and corporate teams helping to achieve the New Jersey goal of $3.6 million to help babies be born healthy.
Special guests at the day’s events included 2013 March for Babies Chair Anthony “Skip” Cimino, President & CEO, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton. Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes, the Trenton Thunder Mascot “Boomer,” the Horizon NJ Health mascot and the American Legion 314 of Ewing Color Guard also joined walkers. Gamin’ Ride of PA donated a gaming truck, Games2U donated to human hamster balls, and a wonderful 75th Anniversary cake was provided by Gina Giallella Designs. PhillyMetroDJ’s provided DJ services to keep the energy high. There were also face painters, clowns, popcorn machine, a live “Angry Birds” demo – and walkers participated in a stroller decorating contest. Aramark donated amazing food for the day. There was also a special memory garden for those to honor a lost loved one.
“We’ve seen today how important the health of moms and babies are to the people of Mercer County,” said Cimino. “I’m so proud to be part of a community where people come together for such a great cause. Helping our babies should be a top priority, and we’re excited about what we’ve accomplished here today.”
Money raised by the event funds research, education and local community grants for programs such as Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait and NICU Family Support.
“Thank you to all of our state-wide sponsors who made the March for Babies event a success and who continue to support the efforts of the March of Dimes and its very important mission,” said Addy Bonet, State Director, March of Dimes, New Jersey chapter.
