Emergency Services
RWJ Hamilton’s new Pediatric Emergency Department will open in Fall 2011, answering a need to support families who require immediateaccess to pediatric emergency care. Treating 8,000 children annually in one of the busiest emergency departmentsin the region, RWJ Hamilton is investing in this dedicated location to create a family-centeredapproach to emergency care, just down the hall from the hussle of the main emergency department.
About the New Pediatric Emergency Unit
This project utilizes existing space connected to the current emergency department.Eight new pediatric treatment rooms, as well as the addition of a new entry vestibule and a new link corridor for patient transport from the existing emergency department will be dedicated to pediatrics. We have engaged our emergency team to help us create an environment that is efficient for them to care for their patients.
Private rooms are generous in size, comfortably accommodating patients, caregivers and families in three zones. Each room is furnished with sleeping accommodations for families to allow parents to comfortably remain with their child for the duration of their stay.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at RWJUH
As part of the Robert Wood Johnson Health System, RWJ Hamilton’s emergencydepartment has an established relationship with Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’sHospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. As a regional resource for pediatric care, our patients have seamless access to this higher level of care, including leading subspecialist pediatric physicians.
